At Joh. Sieben, we started in 1875 with wicker baskets as packaging for glass – and when plastics came onto the scene, we were there from the very beginning. We’ve grown alongside every major development in plastic packaging, building the expertise that drives our work today. With in-house design, modern production, and everything proudly Made in Germany, we turn your ideas into high-quality packaging that’s ready for the world.
Our Journey Through Innovation

Back in 1875, Johann Sieben laid the foundations of our company with a simple yet brilliant idea: crafting sturdy wicker baskets to protect delicate glass bottles and vials. Long before plastics came onto the scene, we were already solving packaging challenges with care, craft, and a keen eye for what customers needed. A true pioneer of his time, Johann didn’t just build baskets – he built the start of something lasting. From those humble, hand-woven beginnings, the Sieben story began to unfold.

As the world shifted toward modern materials, so did we. In 1958, we embraced the future by producing our first plastic baskets and technical components using injection moulding. It was a bold step into the world of modern plastic packaging production, and one that laid the groundwork for decades of innovation to come. Traditional craftsmanship met cutting-edge technology – and we never looked back.

In 1963, we took another leap forward by embracing Extrusion Blow Moulding (EBM) technology – a true game-changer in the world of plastic packaging. This clever technique opened the door to producing high-quality hollow plastic bottles and containers, efficiently and at scale. It marked the beginning of our long-standing expertise in blow moulding production – and we’ve been perfecting it ever since.

By 1975, business was booming, and it was time to spread our wings. We moved into our newly expanded production and office facilities in Heinsberg, Germany – a site that still proudly houses all our Made in Germany plastic packaging production today. It wasn’t just a change of address – it was the beginning of a new chapter in efficiency, growth, and long-term vision.
In 1987, growing demand called for growing space. We expanded our production halls, warehouse, and office facilities to keep up with the increasing need for custom plastic bottles and jars across industries like cosmetics, household goods, and more. With more room came more capability – and even better service for our customers.

In 1999, we welcomed Single-stage Injection Stretch Blow Moulding (ISBM) to our production lineup – unlocking the ability to create high-clarity PET bottles with impressive precision, strength, and barrier properties. Perfect for premium plastic packaging in sectors like cosmetics and personal care, this technology added a whole new layer of sophistication to what we could offer.

In 2007, we added a clever twist to our offering with the introduction of co-extrusion technology and practical viewing stripes. These features didn’t just elevate the design and aesthetics of our plastic packaging – they also made products more user-friendly, letting consumers see exactly what’s inside. Smart, stylish, and seriously useful.
Since 2010, we've been phasing in all-electric plastic production machines as part of our long-term commitment to sustainable packaging manufacturing. This smart upgrade reduces energy consumption, improves production consistency, and cuts down on waste – all key steps in our mission to create eco-friendly plastic packaging without compromising on quality.

In 2013, we wrapped up construction on our modern, FIFO-compliant warehouse, designed to keep things moving like clockwork. By streamlining our logistics and material flow, we’ve ensured faster, more accurate deliveries of our plastic packaging – not just across Germany or Europe, but to customers around the globe.

In 2018, we took quality control up a notch by installing cutting-edge equipment featuring optical sensors and touch probes. This high-tech kit helps us catch any imperfections early, ensuring every single plastic bottle and container that leaves our factory meets Joh. Sieben’s famously exacting standards for precision and durability.
Between 2019 and 2020, we expanded our production floor with three new all-electric extrusion blow moulding machines and a state-of-the-art ISBM unit. This green-tech upgrade not only ramped up our ability to craft premium plastic bottles and containers but also reinforced our commitment to energy-efficient, sustainable manufacturing — delivering quality you can trust, at scale.
